Cosing her eyes, she wondered where her cousin Lucky was? The last she had spoken to her was several weeks ago over the phone to catch up on career goss- the usual stuff which boss had promoted which girl, who was not talking to who... it was amusing to see how rarely the nature of gossip changed. We had planned a road trip this weekend, a spa package for the both of us. We could have been soaking in lavender scented bubble baths with rose petals and complimentary wine... instead here I was enveloped by neutral soap smells and she was no where. No where I knew.
The doorbell rang, it was unusual. If it was Sam, he had the keys. There would have been no need for her to step out into the cold. It rang again- getting out of the bath she dried herself. She swung the bath robe around her which she secured at her waist before padding down the staircase just as it rang again.
Opening the door revealed Sam, and two other men dressed in Black suits. Sam was red in the face, and his pale blue shirt was ruffled and untucked. He wasn't the type to get worked up, nor get in a fight over something. He seemed bare, his watch and ring missing - no doubt his phone, wallet and keys. The men that stood slightly behind him on either side were taller and well built. They were tan, and looked like they were serious, and Sam's next words made me sure of it.
"Let us come in and I will explain everything," his voice heavy with uncertainty of how I was reacting, I stepped aside as he regained his composure and stepped in. The men followed. The living room seemed crowded with the two unknown men taking up most of the couch space. I had changed into a fresh pair of slacks and jumper. I handed Sam a cup of hot green tea and waited for him to speak. His job often involved authorities, this wasn't that unusual. He was an undercover cop, he was in trouble, Lucky would have to wait -for now.
