THE FIRST WEEK

Its a bright and beautiful Sunday signalling the end of the first week of uni. How do i feel? Tired.

Obviously i had to trudge through the experience of fast paced lectures, lecturers with german accents and buying textbooks. However if i have learnt anything in the past six days, it was... "you must take responsibility for your own education".... I am no longer a kid with pocket money to worry about. Yeah, uni is serious business.

When people ask which course are you doing in uni, my answer is the same everytime... its getting boring already! The usual response is wow, that must be full on... let me tell you it is. Now with the second week arriving within twenty four hours, the pile of textbooks seem alot more heavy. Homework is good, even better if its done. So obviously it should be done, but with no intiative for avoiding detention or getting a gold sticker... how do we keep going? The answer is simple... we do.

Most of my friends are employed working up to twenty hours a week, how do they manage work and studies - beats me! Of course, after budgeting textbooks and travel money, i wish i had a well paid job... if not for the money then to escape studies.

So my dillema now is how to stop procrastinating and get on to understanding the several chemistry concepts that were supposedly explained in the past week. Procrastination... the word i learnt during the HSC. My friends and I were so sure we would never use it again after the last exam... oops - we were wrong!

With all the work, there seems to be an exciting social life to uni as well. Actually that depends if your actually allowed to attend the social gatherings and enjoy. My parents being classified as the "education comes first for us " type.... keep these social gatherings of the priority list. So how do i spend my spare time? Well today, upon waking i enjoyed the sweetness of silence before my sister allowed her questions reach my ears. Well good morning world!

Bugging my dad to take me driving, i enjoyed the hot drive while avoiding possible arguments. As soon as the horse (the car) got back to the stable, i retreated upstairs to the mess of my bedroom. No surprise.

Hours ago, i was told to vaccuum the car instead of going for a walk.... if it had ended there i would have given someone five dollars... next came the clothes. " take these clothes i have ironed and hang them upstairs." ... "Yes Mum."

So as you can see, uni is great. The work, Social life and House chores, keep you going! Much better than procrastination. To those on the edge of high school and uni... be prepared... those like me all i can say is... it is better than the HSC.
